Farmers National Acquires CommonGround to Digitize Farmland Leasing
Farmers National Company acquired CommonGround in early 2026, pairing digital farmland valuation and leasing tools with land professionals in more than 30 states for owners and operators.
Market notes
- Farmers National Company acquired CommonGround in early 2026.
- Farmers National land professionals operate in more than 30 states.
- CommonGround offers valuation tools, digital listings, leasing workflows and marketplace connections.
- SVP Grant Fitzgerald says understanding farmland value 'has never been more complex.'

Farmers National Company acquired the CommonGround digital farmland marketplace in early 2026, aiming to move a relationship-driven leasing process into one data-driven platform serving landowners, operators and investors across more than 30 states.
The Omaha, Nebraska-based firm said the deal combines two things that rarely sat in the same office: digital valuation and listing tools on one side, land professionals on the other. CommonGround entered the market to answer a question that rising input costs, changing interest rates and competition for acres have made harder to answer. What should farmland rent for?
Grant Fitzgerald, senior vice president of farm management at Farmers National Company, framed the problem in a statement. "Farmland is one of the most valued assets many families, ownership groups, and investors hold, yet understanding what it's worth and the market opportunities around it has never been more complex," Fitzgerald said. "Whether you're a landowner evaluating leasing options or a farmer looking for additional acres, better information leads to better decisions."
What does the platform actually do?
CommonGround operates as a digital marketplace with four core functions:
- valuation tools that help landowners estimate what their farmland is worth
- digital listings of available ground
- leasing workflows that move negotiation and paperwork online
- marketplace connections linking owners with a broader pool of operators
The design targets two audiences at once. Institutional ownership groups and family landowners often struggle to price their ground and screen leasing offers. Farmers trying to expand face the mirror problem: finding available land and reaching owners outside their local networks.
By concentrating market intelligence, listings and connection tools in a single marketplace, the platform gives owners access to more bidders and gives operators a discovery channel that does not depend on who they already know.
Why Farmers National bought it
Farmers National Company said the acquisition supports a broader investment strategy in tools and partnerships. The stated goals are threefold: long-term land stewardship, improved landowner profitability, and help for farmers competing in what the company calls a more data-driven agricultural economy.
The company pairs the platform with its network of land professionals working in more than 30 states, so digital services arrive with boots-on-the-ground management capacity. Landowners interested in the tools can contact a Farmers National representative or visit farmersnational.com.
What does this change for rent negotiations?
For operators, the immediate shift is transparency of supply. A wider listing pool means farmers can see ground they would never hear about through local channels, though it also means more competition for each listed parcel. For landowners, valuation tools compress the information gap that has historically favored buyers of local knowledge over distant owners.
The acquisition signals where farmland transactions are heading as institutional ownership grows and commodity margins stay tight: pricing supported by data rather than handshake precedent. Whether digital listings narrow rent spreads across regions will depend on adoption, and that remains the open question Farmers National will watch as it integrates the platform through 2026.
