xFarm Buys Sibium Analytics, Adds 8 Million Hectares
xFarm's sixth acquisition in four years adds 8 million hectares of Brazilian sugarcane monitoring and audit tooling ahead of 2027 biofuel documentation rules.
Market notes
- xFarm Technologies acquired Brazil-based Sibium Analytics, adding 8 million monitored hectares to a platform that now covers 24 million hectares for 600,000+ farmers in Europe, Brazil and India.
- Brazil produces roughly half of the world's sugarcane, exports to 145 countries, and derives about 80 percent of its ethanol from sugarcane; new biofuel documentation regulations are expected in 2027.
- The deal is xFarm's sixth acquisition in four years, backed institutionally by BlackRock, and adds Sibium's SIGMA, AMBIUM and DATA VIEW products for crop monitoring, ESG audits and analytics.

xFarm Technologies now manages 24 million hectares of farmland for more than 600,000 farmers across Europe, Brazil and India, and its acquisition of Brazil-based Sibium Analytics adds another 8 million hectares monitored annually — plus a foothold in the world's largest sugarcane ethanol market.
The deal, xFarm's sixth acquisition in four years and its second in Brazil in two years, brings one of Brazil's leading sugarcane agtech firms into a platform that founders Matteo Vanotti and Matteo Cunial, both from farming families, built to collect and organize every layer of data a modern operation generates. Sibium works with nine of Brazil's largest sugarcane producers.
The scale of the market xFarm is entering is hard to overstate. Brazil produces roughly half of the world's sugarcane, exports to 145 countries and ranks as the largest producer of sugarcane ethanol. About 80 percent of the country's ethanol comes from sugarcane, a crop that also feeds bioelectricity into the national grid. xFarm was already number one in Brazilian cotton and established in corn, sugar beet and coffee; Sibium completes its major crop coverage in what has become the company's second-largest market.
From field data to audit trail
Vanotti frames the company's ambition as building "the data layer of global agriculture." In practice, that means connecting primary field data — IoT sensors, machinery integrations, direct farmer input — with satellite remote sensing for crop mapping, biomass analysis and yield estimation, then converting both into crop-specific advice, irrigation scheduling, pest alerts and real-time compliance monitoring.
The company recently launched an AI agent that lets farmers query the platform in plain language through the app or WhatsApp. Ask which field needs water, and it answers with an instruction: put 10 millimeters on that field at eight o'clock tomorrow.
Sibium contributes three products: SIGMA for crop monitoring, AMBIUM for ESG audits, and DATA VIEW for analytics. xFarm plans to deploy all three across its existing client base in Brazil and Europe. Together, they extend the platform's supply chain intelligence so a crop can be traced from planting through harvest, processing and certification to the point where a buyer verifies provenance and environmental profile — documentation that regulators, food companies and, increasingly, financial institutions now demand.
The 2027 biofuel compliance window
The Sibium deal also carries a biofuels exposure that sets it apart from a conventional agtech acquisition. New regulations expected in 2027 will significantly raise documentation requirements for biofuel producers, creating demand for exactly the audit-ready data trail Sibium's platforms generate.
"If you want to sell biofuel, you need more and more documentation and data," Vanotti says. "That is a business that is increasing."
xFarm intends to take those capabilities into other sugarcane markets, including India and Thailand, and to expand the bioenergy offering into adjacent areas. In Europe, the company is watching biogas and biomethane as fuel sustainability rules tighten, and it already works with key players in agrivoltaics and solar.
Consolidation strategy
Agriculture's data market remains fragmented: local champions dominate individual countries, crop segments and supply chain niches, and regulatory complexity blocks any simple global rollout. Vanotti says the acquisition pace will continue, in existing geographies and eventually further afield, paired with organic growth.
The company argues that at 24 million-plus hectares, its data advantage has become self-reinforcing: more hectares yield richer training data for agronomic models, sharper recommendations for farmers, and a stronger proposition for food companies and financial institutions seeking a single window into global supply chains. BlackRock's participation as an institutional backer in the operation signals that the consolidation strategy is drawing capital from beyond agtech's usual investor base.
With 2027 biofuel documentation rules approaching and sustainability verification tightening across Europe and Brazil, xFarm is positioning Sibium's audit tooling to reach far more hectares than the 8 million it monitors today.
