EPA Registers Vive's Bifender Duo for Soil Insects, Nematodes
Vive Crop Protection wins U.S. EPA registration for Bifender Duo, pairing bifenthrin with a ProFarm biopesticide AI for two modes of action against soil insects and nematodes.
Market notes
- U.S. EPA has registered Bifender Duo from Vive Crop Protection for soil insects and nematodes.
- The hybrid product pairs bifenthrin with a biopesticide active ingredient from ProFarm.
- Bifender Duo offers two distinct modes of action against soil insects plus nematocidal activity.

Vive Crop Protection has secured U.S. EPA registration for Bifender Duo, a new hybrid crop protection product that gives growers two distinct modes of action against soil insects plus nematocidal activity in a single offering.
The registration adds a new option to a input segment where growers have been working to manage below-ground pests under increasing scrutiny of stand-alone synthetic chemistry. Bifender Duo combines bifenthrin, a well-established pyrethroid insecticide, with a biopesticide active ingredient supplied by ProFarm.
That pairing is the core of the product's positioning. By bringing a synthetic AI and a biological AI together, Bifender Duo delivers two distinct modes of action against soil insects in one application, an approach the industry broadly promotes as a way to support resistance management while protecting early-season root zones.
The product also carries nematocidal activity, extending its relevance to growers managing plant-parasitic nematodes — a pest class that has drawn renewed attention as older chemistries face regulatory and availability constraints.
For retailers and distributors, the EPA registration means Bifender Duo can now move into the U.S. market through standard crop-input channels. For growers, it expands the roster of at-plant soil pest tools that blend synthetic and biological modes of action.
The hybrid concept reflects a broader shift among input makers: formulating proven synthetic active ingredients alongside biologicals rather than positioning the two categories as substitutes. ProFarm's contribution of the biopesticide AI gives the product its second mode of action and its activity against nematodes.
Vive Crop Protection, the registrant, developed the product under the Bifender brand. The company has not yet detailed launch timing, labeled crops, or use-rate specifics; those parameters will govern how the product fits alongside existing bifenthrin-based soil insecticides in grower budgets.
Pricing was not disclosed in the announcement. As with any new registration, the practical test for Bifender Duo will come in the field: whether the dual-mode-of-action formulation delivers enough consistency against soil insects and nematodes to justify its slot in at-plant programs.
Growers and agronomists evaluating the product should watch for the full EPA-approved label, which will define crops, application methods, rates, and any geographic or use restrictions once commercial rollout begins.
